In my paper I am exploring Hello Kitty. I am looking into why she is as cute as she is. I also want to figure out why she has gotten so popular in the world (although this might be impossible I will try my best).
This is a older picture of Hello Kitty.
Compared to this new version of Kitty.Currently I have a very rough outline of what I want to discuss in my paper. It is as follows.
- The History of Hello Kitty
- Why is she so popular?
- What makes her so cute?
- The success of making her be able to go anywhere
Also, remember that discussion board we all made (or were supposed to make) accounts for? Well I made a thread asking for your opinions on what part of Hello Kitty was the cutest. It is here. I would greatly appreciate your help on this.

Is it just me, or is it that even in 3D rendering or real-life photographs of Hello Kitty dolls there still seems to be a huge sense of superflatness? Take the last picture in the post for instance. This is obviously a photo of a figurine, but from the perspective it still looks like we are missing depth here. Perhaps it's just because I don't have any depth perception though, and my entire world appears superflat. :)
ReplyDeleteSo, just to help you allow with more pictures, I found images of a Hello Kitty Hospital in Taiwan! Here's the google pictures link, it's so cute!!! -->http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=hello+kitty+hospital&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2&aq=0&oq=hello+kitty+hosp
ReplyDeleteAnd while I know that it's not in Japan, it's interesting to think, why use Hello Kitty in the hospital? I mean, if she was my doctor, I wouldn't really trust her to do my surgery well, but hell, a hug would be nice... XD
You know, maybe you can talk about her in relation to other "cute" mascots that aren't as popular. You could compare adn contrast, and theorize about her success over theirs.
ReplyDeleteYou also may be able to look at trends. Looking at populations where it may not have been the cuteness of Hello Kitty that made the brand popular, but rather the status attached to Hello Kitty influencing purchases. The age of people interested in the product may suggest something in relation to this. Adults would most likely be interested in Hello Kitty for the products cuteness, while children many be more complex.

I think this is a good topic. I think it is important for you to mention how incredibly popular she is. I forget who did this, I think it was Charles, he had a clip of hello kitty being the tourist ambassador or something? But I think its just really important to mention how big of social icon she is, but I'm sure you will. Good luck, it looks like you already have a great start and a clear organization of what you want to do.
